How to choose the perfect vase to pair with flowers?
For many people, choosing the right vase feels harder than choosing the flowers themselves. You fall in love with a stunning bouquet at the market, bring it home, place it in your favourite vase — and somehow, it just… doesn't work.
The flowers look top-heavy. The vase feels awkward. The whole arrangement seems to fight itself instead of harmonising.
Here's the good news: It's not your eye that's the problem. It's usually just a matter of understanding a few simple, practical rules. Once you grasp these, you'll never look at a vase the same way again.
1.Start with the Shape: Match the Vessel to the Flower's Nature
Think of the vase as the "architecture" of your arrangement. Its silhouette dictates how the flowers can "sit" within it.
Pro tip: If you have delicate, droopy stems like ranunculus or tulips, avoid a wide, shallow bowl — they'll splay outward and lose their form. A taller, narrower vase gently holds them together and keeps the composition upright.
